The Lovely Shadows of You

So shall I sit
And wait for you to return
Bright wanderer that you are.

I think you shall come back to us
And that we may be happy.

Though as the day breaks
I shall search,
Mine ever patient as that
Which sings for dawn.

The crimson sunrise;
My cry and warning to all
That you are yet lost
And that I have come looking.

Then at noon I reel you in,
And put you down,
Carefully rearranging the midnight of
Those secrets in your face.

All this so that the daylight shall not steal
The lovely shadows of you
And you're footsteps.
Originally wrote it as a comfort piece for a friend who was going through a rough patch of homesickness while on her OE.

I published this as a journal entry yonks ago, but I love it a great deal and I figured now that I'm older and wiser it deserves to be in deviation format.

I read it now, and it still makes me sigh.
